At this house, a driveway went right past the front door. To gain some privacy and make better use of the yard, the driveway has been moved so that it loops away from the house. The old driveway has been replaced with a raised patio and garden.
The new driveway will be concrete with brick dividers. In these photos, the dividers are in place, but the concrete is not. There is extra gravel (actually, “road base”) and boards to protect the brick until the concrete can be installed.
A number of techniques and materials are seen here: Brickwork, stacking retainers, and drip watering systems.
Note that most of the plants are still in pots – this makes it look better while the construction is underway, and allows the owner to be sure of plant selection and placement.
